Cathartic events lead to exponential change.
On April 13, 2021, MUCA had open heart surgery due to a rare congenital heart condition called Loeys-Dietz Syndrome. The average life expectancy for people with Loeys-Dietz is 37 years old and for years prior to the surgery he coped with the knowledge of his impending death. Now, with a new lease on life, his art expresses the pain he felt prior to the surgery, the joy and release he felt after and the gamut of emotions in between. Each heart piece represented here is an autobiographical expression of all of these experiences manifested in digitally manipulated forms. Each piece is a story, a journey through life in the eyes of the artist.
